How long have you been around and who do you work with?
The Travelling Stage was established in 2002. Our head office is based just east of Toronto, but we work with school boards across the country. We have local teaching teams in all provinces.
What grades do you provide workshops to?
We offer quality dance, drama and music programming for preschool through grade 12. We also provide enrichment programming for childcare centres and Montessori schools.
What makes you different than the other companies out there?
We care very much about your experience and the experience of your participants! From your initial call with us through to the program itself, we strive for excellence. Our programs are built on school curriculum by our Director, Toni Grates, who also teaches Dance and Drama Education at Brock University. Our teaching artists have extensive performance and teaching credits. Our roster includes well known performers from TV, Film, Stratford, Shaw, Broadway, National Tours, Second City, Cruise Ships and a variety of stages across North America. Our teacher roster and instruction is second to none. More than anything, we are known for our “culminating task”, which is a presentation for parents and school community that displays the amazing work the students have done.
Money is tight at my school. Do your in school workshops include any “extras”?
All of our programs include a pre-workshop activity, a detailed teacher resource guide showing the curriculum covered (which teachers can use for evaluation purposes), a post-workshop extension activity, and a rubric to help you get that report card mark. We also have access to funding for schools in need.
How much do your workshops cost?
We know that arts funding is sometimes hard to come by and we do everything we can to keep our costs affordable. Our fees range from $50.00 – $250.00 per program, depending on duration and number of students attending. Financial assistance is also available for schools in need. Connect with us for a comprehensive pricing guide.
How many students can you teach at a time?
We can teach up to 2 full classes, but we always remind schools that less students means more individualized instruction.
Do you follow the Arts Curriculum?
Yes, we do. Our team includes several educational consultants, including certified teachers and school principals who have helped us to develop programming according to provincial Arts Curriculum.
I’m interested in hosting a lunch time program at my school. How does that work and what does it cost?
Our club programs are affordable and hassle free. All you need to do is supply the space (it doesn’t have to be a gym!) and distribute our registration materials. We handle all parent questions and payments directly (if you wish) and oversee in school supervision. All sessions are 6-12 weeks in duration.
Does The Travelling Stage carry insurance? What about police checks?
The Travelling Stage is a fully incorporated company and carries $5 million dollars in liability and accident insurance. All of our arts educators are required to complete vulnerability sector screenings to work with us.
